Are Lithium Batteries a Good Choice for Solar

Should I buy Lithium Batteries for my RV?

lithium battery Lithium batteries are highly powerful batteries made up of lithium compounds. They stand apart from other batteries because of their high charge density and higher cost per unit. These amazing units can last for thousands of cranking hours for years of enjoyable use and reliability. A lot of people are replacing their AGM and Deep Cycle Marine Batteries for them because of the high output of these units. The cost is much higher than a simple 12 volt battery bank, but the output is so much higher than an average battery. For example, an AGM battery may last for 5 years, while a lithium battery could go for 10 years. Most people won’t use their RV or Travel Trailer everyday or even every weekend. So these units can last this long or even longer. I personally think battery technology is getting better and better over the years, making it easier and cheaper for the consumer.

Lithium batteries also require a specific lithium battery charger. Also you need to keep in mind that Solar Controller’s need to be set to a specific voltage, such as 14.1 volts Gel. This is key to ensuring you are operating your lithium batteries properly. Most RV battery chargers are produced for AGM, Gel and Deep Cycle Marine Batteries. These batteries are much more accessible than Lithium Batteries, but still lithium batteries may last so long that you don’t have to worry as often about replacing them on the road or at home. Then you can properly monitor the battery and decide when to replace it. Call Outside Supply today to discuss battery solutions and chargers for your RV, Travel Trailer, Fifth Wheel Camper or Cabin.

Lithium batteries have come down a lot in price over the last 10 years. When we first started selling these batteries, they were hard to come by and a 100 Ah battery would cost over $5000. Today they are much lower cost and the power denisty is getting greater.
